Games Industry has opened up some details on SEGA’s adventure title with the much loved Double Fine. The game is officially known as “The Cave.” It will be digitally distributed and is coming to PC and consoles in early 2013. In fact, it is a part of SEGA’s strategy to dominate the digital landscape with their catalog and IP.
Ron Gilbert spoke about the title and the involvement with SEGA:
“The concept of The Cave has been bouncing around in my head for many, many years, and then the little voices that tell me to do things said it was time to make the game…I’m thrilled to be working with amazingly talented folks at Double Fine and ecstatic that the team at Sega believes in adventure games and quirky ideas.”
Sounds good to me and it also sounds like SEGA is piggybacking on the Kickstarter buzz that happened recently with Double Fine – SEGA of America could always earn more goodwill amongst gamers. Someone is clearly thinking.
I wouldn’t be surprised to hear if iOS or Android versions appear down the line. On top of that, it looks like a damn fine game too. Double fine to be honest. Puns aside, I am clearly stoked that SEGA is endorsing quirky titles and new IP.
This also opens up “Veil of Darkness” to rampant speculation. Hooray!
