Sega’s E3 show stealer is set to release in January 2010. Launching on both the PS3 and Xbox 360, Bayonetta is an anime inspired action game brought to you from the deviously clever minds at Platinum games. Bayonetta stole the spotlight right out from under God of War III at the recent video game expo. It is truly a sight to behold in high definition.
The January release date was chosen for the title to help differentiate the new IP from the glut of big name sequels and franchises that try to cash in on the holiday shopping season. Sega’s New President and COO for Sega West, Mike Hayes stated officially:
“Bayonetta is an extremely important new IP for SEGA and adds a new level of depth to our growing portfolio. As a result of market analysis we have taken a Publishing decision that January 2010 is the optimum release time in the Western Markets to maximize this exciting new title’s potential.”
This is good news for gamers everywhere as now they will have time to save up for a new IP and the game can recieve the spotlight it deserves. Hopefully, with this move help Bayonetta garner higher sales and help Sega develop a franchise. I’ve been following the development of this title and can’t wait to play through its epic, large-scale battles.
Sega should be given tons of credit for their recent trend of releasing new IPs that are of high quality; recieving both critical acclaim and fan fervour such as Valkyria Chronicles and MadWorld. Next year we will be adding Bayonetta to that list.
